Hechathorn-Fesen Gull 1
February 20, 2024
This image was taken over the nights of February 19nd thru February 20th. It was taken as part of the SkyWatcher USA TOTM (target of the month) contest. It was a difficult acquisition because (again weather) I was forced to image during a 90+ percent moon and this target is almost totally made up of Oiii gas. This image consists of a total of 12hrs 40 mins. This is made up of the following individual frames:
Red 30 x 30s
Green 30 x 30s
Blue 30 x 30s
Ha 47 x 300s
Oiii 96 x 300s
HFG-1 is named after the three astronomers that first observed it in 1982. It is a planetary nebula composed almost entirely of Oiii gas. The planetary nebula is formed from a binary system comprised of a white dwarf and a large red giant star. The two stars are very close and rotate about each other in just 14 hours
I took the images from my backyard observatory using an Astro-Tech AT130EDT telescope with a focal length 910mm. I used the ZWO ASI 294MM Pro camera and Baader LRGB filters and Antlia 3nm Ha and Oiii filters. The 30sec RGB exposures are only for the stars and the narrowband Ha and Oiii for the nebula. All process using PixInsight.
